PRACTICAL GUIDE
Keep observations separate from theories
A useful note preserves what you know without quietly turning your first guess into a fact.
Write the observation first
Record the visible detail, location or statement. Then label the explanation you infer as a hypothesis that may need another observation.
Connect a question to a place
In an exploratory mystery, a note should help explain why you might revisit somewhere. A list of destinations without questions can become another unhelpful checklist.
Revise the unsupported link
When a theory fails, identify which relationship was assumed. Keep reliable observations rather than starting from nothing after every incorrect conclusion.
